The So Cal Chapter of RCI, Inc. invites you to learn, network and dine at our Technical Dinner Meeting at JT Schmid’s Restaurant & Brewery, 2610 E Katella Ave, Anaheim, CA 92806. This program is designed to improve the knowledge base of consultants, contractors, and design professionals practicing in the roofing, waterproofing and building enclosure field. The seminar provides 1.0 AIA LU’s and 1.0 RCI CEH’s and includes dinner.
Due to increasing energy efficient designs driven by building codes, states, or by owners motivated by potential cost savings, exterior insulation has become a prominent player in the construction industry as an alternative method to achieve higher energy performance. The strategic solutions that exterior insulation can provide as well as their limitations and challenges will be presented. We will also discuss these cladding systems from the insurance carrier perspective. The presenter is employed at a firm that provides quality assurance to builders nationwide to help them meet insurance carrier requirements regarding the “Exclusion on Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems.”
Increased thermal envelope performance and tighter buildings reduce the drying potential of buildings, which increases the performance needs of the air/water barriers to perform efficiently against moisture in the form of bulk-water and vapor. Several strategies and design solutions will be presented, identifying the limitations and issues that can occur with water intrusion and fire ratings when designs are not specified to meet the building needs. A commercial project will be presented as a case study, in which the role of waterproofing consultant and the CEI (Certified EIFS Inspector) were contracted, showcasing the critical components to verify for proper design and construction.
